چکیده

This paper considers the second-order properties of empirical likelihood (EL) for a parameter defined by moment restrictions, which is the inferential framework of the generalized method of moments. It is shown that the EL defined for this general framework still admits the delicate secondorder property of Bartlett correction. This represents a substantial extension of all the established cases of Bartlett correction for the EL. An empirical Bartlett correction is proposed, which is shown to work effectively in improving the coverage accuracy of confidence regions for the parameter. r 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. On the Second Order Properties of Empirical Likelihood with Moment Restrictions1

This paper considers the second order properties of empirical likelihood for a parameter defined by moment restrictions, which is the framework operated upon by the Generalized Method of Moments. It is shown that the empirical likelihood defined for this general framework still admits the delicate second order property of Bartlett correction, which represents a substantial extension of all the ...

Testing for Nonnested Conditional Moment Restrictions via Conditional Empirical Likelihood

We propose non-nested tests for competing conditional moment resctriction models using a method of empirical likelihood. Our tests are based on the method of conditional empirical likelihood developed by Kitamura, Tripathi and Ahn (2004) and Zhang and Gijbels (2003). By using the conditional implied probabilities, we develop three non-nested tests: the moment encompassing, Cox-type, and effcien...

ON THE ASYMPTOTIC OPTIMALITY OF EMPIRICAL LIKELIHOOD FOR TESTING MOMENT RESTRICTIONS By

In this paper we make two contributions. First, we show by example that empirical likelihood and other commonly used tests for parametric moment restrictions, including the GMM-based J-test of Hansen (1982), are unable to control the rate at which the probability of a Type I error tends to zero. From this it follows that, for the optimality claim for empirical likelihood in Kitamura (2001) to h...

An Empirical Likelihood-based Local Estimation1

This paper considers a modified empirical likelihood and uses it to estimate models with imperfect moment restrictions. Consistency, local normality and asymptotic optimality of the new estimator only require the local identifiability and the linear-quadratic representation. In imperfect situations, classical sandwich algorithms give bias estimations while the new estimator preserves its asympt...

Empirical Likelihood Estimation of Continuous-Time Models With Conditional Moment Restrictions

The EL estimators have some favorable higher order asymptotic properties. We extend the EL method proposed by Donald et al. (2003) to estimate non-i:i:d: continuous-time models with the known functional form of the conditional characteristic function. In many cases even the MLE method can not be performed, the EL method can do. More over, not only does the EL method resolve the problem of covar...
